Low Back Pain (With or Without Sciatica)
Low back pain is discomfort or pain in the area between your lower ribs and your hips. It can range from a dull ache to sharp, stabbing pain.
Common Symptoms
- Dull or aching pain: Often felt in the lower back muscles or spine.
- Sharp or shooting pain: May occur with sudden movements or lifting.
- Stiffness: Trouble bending, twisting, or standing up straight.
- Muscle spasms: Tight or cramping muscles in the lower back.
- Pain that spreads: Sometimes pain radiates into the buttocks, hips, or legs (sciatica).
- Worsening with activity: Pain may increase with lifting, bending, or standing for long periods.
- Relief with rest: Lying down or resting often eases symptoms.
Note: Most low back pain improves on its own within a few weeks. Seek medical care if you have numbness, weakness, trouble controlling your bladder or bowels, or severe pain that doesn’t improve.
